The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has approved a performance-based incentive for the Super Eagles, with players set to earn $5,000 for every goal scored at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
According to information gathered by NaijaViralHQ, the goal-bonus structure was jointly designed by the NFF and the Federal Ministry of Sports as part of a broader motivation plan aimed at boosting performance and encouraging attacking football throughout the tournament.
A similar incentive model was introduced during Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup African qualifying campaign, where it was credited with improving player commitment and output.
The Super Eagles have already benefited from the policy early in the competition. Their opening Group C victory over Tanzania, which ended 2–1, earned the team a total of $10,000 from goals scored, placing Eric Chelle’s side in a strong position heading into the next group fixture.
Nigeria will face Tunisia on Saturday night in a high-stakes Group C encounter scheduled for 9:00pm Nigerian time. A win would significantly boost Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for the Round of 16 with a match to spare.
Tunisia currently sit top of the group after recording a convincing 3–0 win over Uganda, meaning both teams go into the clash knowing that victory would almost guarantee early qualification.
The match also carries added significance for Nigeria, as Tunisia eliminated the Super Eagles in the Round of 16 at AFCON 2021, a result many Nigerian fans still regard as painful.
Beyond the tournament itself, the Super Eagles’ recent performances have attracted praise from political and sports stakeholders.
Prominent figures including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and NFF President Ibrahim Gusau publicly celebrated the team following their emphatic 4–1 win over Gabon in a pre-tournament friendly.
With financial incentives now directly tied to goals and confidence growing within the squad, expectations are rising that the Super Eagles could mount a serious title challenge if they maintain their early momentum at AFCON 2025.
