Dangote Petitions ICPC Over Alleged Corruption Involving NMDPRA Chief.

 

Chairman of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has filed a formal petition with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) against the Managing Director of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Ahmed Farouk.

The petition, dated December 16, 2025, accuses the NMDPRA boss of corruption and financial misconduct, with Dangote calling for his arrest, investigation, and possible prosecution.

According to the petition, which was received by the office of the ICPC Chairman, Musa Adamu Aliyu (SAN), Dangote alleged that Farouk has been living far beyond his legitimate earnings as a public servant.

Dangote claimed that Farouk allegedly spent over $7 million on the education of his four children in Switzerland, paying tuition fees upfront over a six-year period. 

The petition reportedly detailed the names of the children, their respective schools, and the amounts paid, which Dangote said were provided to enable verification by the anti-graft agency.

The business mogul further alleged that the NMDPRA MD used his official position to divert public funds for personal benefit, actions he claimed have contributed to recent public protests and criticism directed at the petroleum regulatory authority.

According to Dangote, Farouk has spent his entire working life in the Nigerian public sector, arguing that his cumulative earnings could not reasonably account for such foreign educational expenses.

In the petition, Dangote described the alleged acts as abuse of office, breach of the Code of Conduct for public officers, corrupt enrichment, and embezzlement, offences which he noted fall within the investigative and prosecutorial powers of the ICPC under Section 19 of the ICPC Act.

He urged the Commission to act decisively, stressing that a successful prosecution under the law carries a potential five-year prison sentence without an option of fine.

Dangote also expressed confidence in the ICPC’s ability to investigate financial crimes, adding that the matter is already in the public domain and requires urgent attention to safeguard public trust and the integrity of the current administration.

As of the time of filing this report, Ahmed Farouk has not publicly responded to the allegations.
