Police Invite Former Rivers SSG Over Alleged Plot Against FCT Minister Wike

The Nigeria Police Force has invited a former Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Tammy Wenike Danagogo, for questioning in connection with an ongoing investigation involving a leaked phone conversation allegedly linked to a plot against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The invitation was issued by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Force Intelligence Department, Abuja. 

An invitation letter dated January 9 directed Danagogo to appear in person at the IRT complex in the Guzape District of Abuja on Thursday, January 15, at 10 a.m.

According to the letter, Danagogo is expected to report to a team led by CSP Hillary Ugwuanyi upon arrival. 

The police described the invitation as part of a fact-finding exercise and cited Section 53(2)(c) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, as the legal basis for the summons.

The letter did not specify the offence under investigation or mention Wike by name. However, sources familiar with the matter said the invitation is connected to a viral audio recording that has recently circulated online and heightened political tensions in Rivers State.

Danagogo previously served as Secretary to the Rivers State Government and is known to be a close ally of the current governor, Siminalayi Fubara. 

Online reports have linked him to the leaked audio, which allegedly contains discussions about a plan to harm Wike, a long-time political rival.

In a related development, operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team reportedly arrested a Port Harcourt–based medical doctor and cleric, Dr. Tombari Joseph Gbeneol, in connection with the same investigation. 

Security sources said the arrest followed the interception of a phone conversation allegedly involving Dr. Gbeneol and Danagogo.

According to the sources, the conversation allegedly discussed plans to involve foreign nationals and seek financial support for the operation. 

The matter was described by security officials as a serious national security concern, prompting swift intervention by the police.

Confirming the development, the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, said a suspect has been arrested and is currently in police custody.

“Investigation is ongoing,” Hundeyin said, while declining to disclose further details or the identity of those involved.

Police sources said detectives are working to verify the authenticity of the recordings, establish the full circumstances surrounding the allegations, and determine whether additional individuals may be connected to the case.
