The impeachment proceedings initiated by the Rivers State House of Assembly against Governor Siminalayi Fubara appear to be losing steam, as the governor has reportedly not been formally served any notice as required by law.
Lawmakers loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, had recently announced the commencement of impeachment moves against Governor Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, citing allegations of gross misconduct during a plenary session.
However, information gathered by NaijaViralHQ indicates that several days after the announcement, the governor has not received any official communication from the Assembly regarding the impeachment process.
A government source familiar with the situation disclosed that Governor Fubara has not been physically present in Rivers State since returning from an official overseas engagement.
According to the source, the governor travelled to Abuja shortly after attending a state function on Sunday.
The source explained that the governor’s absence from the state makes claims that he has already been served with impeachment documents unlikely.
“There is no record of the governor being served any notice. After returning from his trip abroad, he attended a public event and immediately left for Abuja. He has not been around for several days,” the source said.
Political observers note that under constitutional procedures, an impeachment process cannot move forward without proper service of notice on the affected officeholders.
As of the time of filing this report, the Rivers State House of Assembly has not issued an official statement confirming that Governor Fubara or his deputy has been formally served.
